What is Alopecia?
Alopecia occurs when the immune system attacks the hair follicles (the structures that contain the roots of the hair), causing hair loss. It most often occurs in otherwise healthy people. The NHS estimate around 8 million women in the UK experience some form of hair loss medically known as Alopecia. So if you think you may have Alopecia, you are definitely not alone.
Alopecia can cause different types of hair loss and not everyone loses all of their hair. Hair often grows back but may fall out again. Sometimes hair loss lasts for many years or may grow back relatively quickly.
